Broadcasting from 850 W Lincoln, Decoy Deloy is back with music news you can use. This week: The Kinks announce The Journey, a narratively structured career retrospective; industrial blues from Buck Gooter; and art icon Yoko Ono celebrates her 90th birthday.

The Kinks have announced a career-spanning anthology to celebrate their 60th anniversary. The Journey Pt. 1 will be out March 24th with a second installment to follow later this year. Selections like “You Really Got Me” and “Waterloo Sunset” are among songs handpicked by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. It’s more than a “best of” collection. The songs are divided into chapters which form a narrative story arc. The band promises “global events and activities” throughout 2023 and 2024. You can count on WASTOIDS News to keep you updated.
Synth-punk crew Buck Gooter has released a new song and video for “Burning Glass.” It’s the first single from the forthcoming album Ghost Brain which drops April 4th. Buck Gooter was founded in 2005 by artist Terry Turtle and Billy Brett, who performs with a variety of sound makers, including a theremin and drum machines. Though Turtle passed away in 2019, he made Billy promise to continue on. The new record was produced by Oliver Ackermann of A Place To Bury Strangers and Death By Audio. Samples of Turtle appear throughout, adding a ghostly presence to the primal industrial blues. In related news, Buck Gooter will play Lost Leaf in Phoenix April 21st.

On February 18th, art icon Yoko Ono turns 90 years old. Born in Tokyo, Ono moved to New York in the 1950s, where she established herself as an avant-garde artist of note. She met the Beatle John Lennon in 1966; they married in 1969. They went on to make some of the most forward thinking and far out rock music of the ‘70s. To celebrate Yoko’s birthday, Sean Ono Lennon has created a virtual Wish Tree where fans can share their wishes to Yoko online. The organization One Tree Planted will be planting real life trees in her honor. Happy birthday Yoko, thank you for the incredible art and courageous spirit.
