Christone “Kingfish” Ingram is only 24-years-old, but you’d be forgiven for thinking he’s been playing the blues for decades. Growing up in Clarksdale Mississippi, Kingfish got started playing music in his church, and at only 5 he got into the blues, influenced by masters like BB King, Muddy Waters, and Lightnin’ Hopkins.
His 2019 full length debut Kingfish was nominated for a Grammy, and he followed it in 2021 with his second, 662, which earned him a Grammy win for Best Contemporary Blues album.
Now he’s back with his most personal and revelatory record yet, Hard Road. Emphasising R&B influences, Kingfish shared first single “Voodoo Charm,” which showcases some distinct Hendrix-influence, as you might expect.
Hard Road is out September 26th on Kingfish’s own label, Red Zero Records.
