SARA YUKIKO MON

The WASTOIDS Featured Artist series shines a light on some of our favorite creators from the worlds of music and art. Today we’re looking at Brooklyn-based Artist Sara Yukiko Mon.

Sara Yukiko Mon was born and raised in San Fransisco and was quickly introduced to art by her mom, who is also an artist, on how to draw and paint at a very young age. After high school Sara enrolled into UCLA and graduated in 2018 with a BA in Design and Media Arts. Sara has held design jobs since gradutation but it wasn’t really until the pandemic where they could start focusing on original artwork again.

Sara is mostly inspired from the mundane happenings around her life and of childhood nostalgia. Also from the images of online antique shopping and found images she sees walking around the city. While making new artwork, Sara listens to artists including Inoyamaland, Shiho Yabuki, Liz Phair, and POiSON GiRL FRiEND. Other Artist/Designers she enjoys are Shelley Uckotter, Mimi Park, and their partner Chris Lloyd, who they have done a number of collaborations with.

Make sure you check out their Sara’s website HERE and to give her a follow on Instagram @sarayukiko.
