Has anyone ever been cooler or more imposing than Alan Vega, frontman of the pioneering art punk duo Suicide? In the band’s early days, he’d prowl NYC stages brandishing a chain, howling over his bandmate Martin Rev’s minimal keyboard riffs. Vega also had a flourishing solo career, and now Sacred Bones Records and the Vega Vault Project have announced reissues of his 1980 self-titled solo debut and its follow up, 1981’s hard rock inspired Collision Drive. The records feature newly remastered mixes and reimagined art by Vega Vault creative director Jared Artaud, who cites Vega’s penchant for “always reinventing himself.” The reissues are available January 23, and the announcement comes with a video for “Ice Drummer” directed Douglas Hart, a founding member of The Jesus & Mary Chain.
