Here at WASTOIDS, we love it when we see bands breaking out of the standard way of doing things, and that’s why we’re so excited to see Phoenix indie rockers Emby Alexander sharing two new songs, “Coin” and “Passing Through” via a phone line—we love those! They’re calling it Emby Fone, and you can dial 224-255-EMBY to connect. Produced by Rusty Santos, known for his work with Animal Collective, TV on the Radio, and Grizzly Bear, the songs find Michael Alexander tapped into a classic pop feel while keeping the edges cryptic. And while you can listen to “COIN” wherever you stream music—and/or pick up a cassette version complete with a commemorative physical coin—there’s something special about hearing it come from your tiny phone speaker, like you’re listening to it on an old transistor radio or something.
