Born in Venezuela, raised in Nicaragua, and musically christened in New Orleans with his band Lawn, Rui Gabriel (Lawn) is currently based in Indiana. On his debut solo album Compassion—out now from Carpark Records—he layers indie rock guitars, drum loop beats, and harmony-laden vocals that feel like Yo La Tengo snuggling up with Primal Scream or Len signed to Elephant 6.
