Mixtape: JPW’s Grand Canyon Sound

Welcome to Mixtape, our weekly feature where we hand the keys to the WASTOIDS Spotify account over to cool folks to share what they’re listening to.

JPW is WASTOIDS’ own Jason P. Woodbury, a home for his spacey and blissful reverb drenched country, folk, and indie rock songs. For Grand Canyon Sound, Woodbury rounded up a selection of “zoners by Zonies,” 17 songs from Arizona artists that range from mid-century heaters to brand new recordings. From the vintage twang of Al Casey and Sanford Clark, to the psych country of Goose Creek Symphony, Latin breezes by Los Espliffs and Eddie Dimas, to the loner folk of Terry Telson, Caleb Dailey, and The Sunpunchers, to oddities from Hataalali, Spiritual Warfare, and more, this playlist suggests the wideness of the desert sound (as well a taste of JPW’s own tunes and work with Phoenix indie rockers Kitimoto) . JPW’s debut album Something Happening/Always Happening is available now from Fort Lowell Records on yellow vinyl and at Bandcamp.
