“Don’t stop/keeping going,” Ryan Breen sings on “Last Day,” a triumphant simmer of electronic rock selection from his 2022 album Anything I Say To You Will Be Painful. It’s a record that artfully addresses the feeling of being “lost in space” that accompanies so much of modern existence. What exactly is going on? And more pressingly: why? On this follow up to the 2020 EP RIP SVD, Breen suggests if there’s any hope, it’s to be found in each other. His WASTOIDS playlist is “a collection of some of my favorite music that has inspired some of my music projects, Back Ted N-Ted, Spirit Cave, and D3PTHS.” It veers from the glammed out grunge of The Smashing Pumpkins to trip hop, from indie rock to ’90s radio jams, rom the from glitched electronica of Squarepusher to classic rock psychedelia from Jimi Hendrix, illustrating Breen’s breadth of sound.
