Today’s groove-centric playlist comes from Saul Millan, who records under the name XSONAZX and as one-half of Los Esplifs with percussionist Caleb Michel. Born in Nogales, Sonora/Arizona, Millan has spent the 2010s immersed in music and visual art, working and performing alongside artists like Iron and Wine, Neon Indian, Calexico, Orkesta Mendoza, and The Mexican Institute of Sound. Recently, he released The Sky Will Always Be Blue, the debut EP from his XSONAZX guise, an ambient project built on synth textures, which incorporates modern and free jazz compositional elements, cascading minimalist arpeggios, and washes of electronic sound.
