A self-proclaimed “realist painter of fun things,” Greg Carr is an oil painter based in Asheville, North Carolina. Approaching mundane subjects—from snack foods to video game controllers—with a serious and artful tone, Carr says he loves, “to combine the seriousness of painting with the depiction of objects that make people laugh, and places that make them smile.”
Greg is inspired by contemporary and classical realism, but leans toward impressionism. “I like the blend between realism and abstraction,” he says, citing Duane Keiser and Jacob A Pfeiffer as early inspirations.

Greg usually listens to podcasts while working, but sometimes opts for complete silence while creating new pieces. (We understand, gotta concentrate on those strokes.) When they do listen to music, they enjoy the sounds of Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, The National, La Femme, Alex Cameron, and Big Thief. Other hobbies include playing games on Steam with friends and juggling. “I really enjoy [it],” he says of the skill. “I can pass club between other people. The circus community is fun.”
